So if you’re reading this blog, no doubt your a crazy stalker of mine, or a die hard video game fan. Either one you would be up to date with the latest crazy video game which is popular at the time, or the next title you personally are looking out for.
Say its something which is obviously going to only impact on a niche market. Something like for say Okami, or maybe something even more secluded and hidden like the Nintendo DS’s Lost Magic- a gem yes, but how many people can say they bought it.
The simple fact is these days, no one buys good games. And more and more so- like music the phrase can be extended to no one buys games.
The recession has changed the face and tactics of many industries, and the video game industry- one which is so closed and secretive has scene once again companies change faces and positions. The evil one is now the good one, and the good one- well their just bastards now.
So these said companies all have a new face, a few now have some fancy new masks. And what more is there is no batman. Some are now falling- and now the greatest message they can know is that its darkest at dawn.
But for those who are failing, and sailing the huge fail whale- you ask what do they specialise in. I say- hardcore games. Well when they bitch they got fuck all sales and go make the next Petz game what do the competition say? They say they where just targeting a niche market. Well in 10 months time, they will make their own Petz game or Wii Fit board because clearly no one buys good games anymore.
Want to know why indie game companies are succeeding when big companies fail? Well so do I.
I can see people getting video games for either $5 a pop or free. Dev teams are going to be small as all shit- and its going to be more of a hobby/doing it for the love of it type of job. Not because you want the cash.
