Space Invaders, for me is a licence which is true to heart. Once again Taito is at it again with Space Invaders Extreme for the Nintendo DS. As well as the soon to be released sequel Space Invaders Extreme 2.
I’ve been playing this game for months, but this month I picked up the Australian copy of the title.
And I’m still- loving it!.
Space Invaders Extreme shows that something from the original years, can still be strong in the current generations. With its sharp soundtrack and graphics- Space Invaders Extreme is a good upgrade to an old series- something the developers should be proud of.
Space Invaders Extreme keeps the original promises of the series and original. But includes some simple ideas to keep the game fresh and interesting.
- Soundtrack
- Impressive Graphics
- Larger Space Invaders
- Invaders can have abilities (such as hyper beams, armour etc.)
- Unique bosses at the end of each zone
- Power Ups (obtainable through various methods)
These several things really keep the game in focus to the new era, but isn’t enough to change the game play so drastic that its alien to the original.
Space Invaders Extreme was also released for the PSP. The sequel is just for the Nintendo DS entertainment system. Which is out in Japan very soon.
Animation and Sounds are both sharp and crisp- each level has a different track and background animation.
The zones come in different difficulties- and there are plenty of zones which you can play if you go up the ladder.
The title also features Wi-fi matches via Nintendo Wifi Connection. The title also features 1-2 LAN play and if that’s not all- the title allows 1-2 players for single cart download play. Something which DS developers are really lacking support in.
Score: Thumps Up
While this title came out last year- its taken awhile for me to get to the reviewing stage for this title. It’s a shame- because its one great title. Which everyone should pick up.
