Google has filed a patent that they plan to compile with psychological profiles of millions of gamers by convertly monitoring the way they play online games.

The patent apparently says that Google can also use the profiles for not only MMOs but console’s such as the Wii, Xbox360 and PS3 which can hook up to the internet.

The patent also talks about using memory card data as advertising information; “Such saved information may be thought of state information, and offers a valuable source of information to the advertisers.” For example; if you’ve played 350 hours of Oblivion, they’ll know.

Advertising can be used also in these examples;

- In a car racing game, after a user crashes his Honda Civic, an announcer could be used to advertise by saying ‘if he had a Hummer, he would have gotten the better of that altercation’, etc… If the user has been playing for over two hours continuously, the system may display ads for Pizza Hut, Coke, coffee.

- People who do alot of exploring can get ads for traveling, but people who talk to lots of people in game can see ads for mobile phones.

Google has said the technology will not come out in the near future. They say its one of the many patents they file which they may not use. The Guardian reports that a Google spokesman had this to say: “Google registers different patents irrespective of whether we actually intend to use them.”
