It was a quite Tuesday morning at 6:30. I woke up and sat at my computer an hour ealier. Why? Because that was the day I went all over town.

Why did I go all over town? For an exersion in Geography. First we went to the dam, then we went to the water works, then we had lunch at mc’s then we went to the surage treatment works.

Google has filed a patent that they plan to compile with psychological profiles of millions of gamers by convertly monitoring the way they play online games.

The patent apparently says that Google can also use the profiles for not only MMOs but console’s such as the Wii, Xbox360 and PS3 which can hook up to the internet.

The patent also talks about using memory card data as advertising information; “Such saved information may be thought of state information, and offers a valuable source of information to the advertisers.” For example; if you’ve played 350 hours of Oblivion, they’ll know.

Advertising can be used also in these examples;

- In a car racing game, after a user crashes his Honda Civic, an announcer could be used to advertise by saying ‘if he had a Hummer, he would have gotten the better of that altercation’, etc… If the user has been playing for over two hours continuously, the system may display ads for Pizza Hut, Coke, coffee.

- People who do alot of exploring can get ads for traveling, but people who talk to lots of people in game can see ads for mobile phones.

Google has said the technology will not come out in the near future. They say its one of the many patents they file which they may not use. The Guardian reports that a Google spokesman had this to say: “Google registers different patents irrespective of whether we actually intend to use them.”

Last week Miyamoto told the world he could have made Halo. This week Bungie is responding to Miyamoto’s comments.

When Joystiq asked Bungie’s Frank O’Connor about the comment he had plenty to say…

Joystiq: One final question: last week, Shigeru Miyamoto said in an interview with Geoff Keighley in Entertainment Weekly that he could make Halo.

Frank: Yeah, well. I just want to go on the record and say that Bungie is hard at work on a side-scrolling platform game featuring some plumbers — I’m not going to say what their ethnicity is, it’s none of anyone’s business — but we took that as a gauntlet, a sort of glove slap, and we’re going to respond in 2D scrolling style. That’s all I’m saying.

So they could have made Mario? Why not try and pick on Zelda or Pikmin which are more interesting…ah well.

For years the Operating System GUI has been the same or simluar among newer versions and other brands.

Different companys extinusish themselves from the other by a diffrent feature which stands out, or different placement of items and to top it off a diffrent logo in the left handcorner either ontop or bottom depending if its Windows, Linux or Mac.

For years there also hasn’t been a new compeditor to the market. Why? Iddno, we have Windows from Mircosoft still going strong which is getting more expencive for each version. Mac OS which just is werid…and Linux which is free from free living people.

So what do I think the future OS should be?

Have a look at my ideas…
First I belive OS’s should move to a more Web 2.0 look. Meaning they look and run like most new Web 2.0 applcations. Reason? One it alows a newer look and two, when users use the Web 2.0 version of the OS…it will look simluar or the same.

As you can see from this image. It does indeed look more ‘Web 2.0′. The three icons to the right top hand side can change to minizmize, expand and exit. The design is using the desk top for widgets. Widgets will be downloadable which show users many new features as well as different possible things. I.E a welcome widget, etc. Basicly your desktop becomes your personalised homepage.

The image in the far left top corner will be your user image. This will be interwided with a users profile on the internet and also general sections to be accessed and change the web version of the users profile.

The V icon is a menu. The menu to the left of the user image will be the ‘Start menu’ The one next to the Lock and Shutdown icons will be for general settings etc. Such as the right click personization menu if you where on a PC using Windows. The one next to the clock on the bottom would be settings and options for the desktop.

This is what I belive full screen mode would look like. Such as if you had a Internet Explorer open. The 3 icons from before become Minimize, Maximize and Exit. The menus have moved along, and a new icon has been created in that location for shut down options.

The clock area is now a smaller button and if you click it the click expands out from the side showing the time.

A new menu is created along side the user image with the options such as File, Edit etc.

Lastly for today, an image to explain if you where to have a small dialog box open. Notice the 5 images are the same if you have a program open, but the extra options don’t appear and the clock stays the same.

Part 2

Earlier I talked about the GUI of the future OS and explained alittle on what I belive it should be in terms of features.

Like I said it should be more Web orintated, for this example we will use Google’s products.

Say if Google released a OS like this, seeing they have a Web Wordprosessor, etc. They could be interwided with the ‘pc’ versions of the applications. So if User on PC makes a change to the document on Googles server it will be changed on Googles server. If the user is connected to the internet. They can view past versions of the document, spreadsheat or what ever it was.

So there are alot of benifits in chaning the way we make Operating Systems. If they end up more like a Web 2.0 application, then we will see more creative and interesting designs and features in the future. Widgets are heading there…but we can head further.

Managing director of a small UK indie team Mark Morris has told attendees to the Northern Exposure conference that developers should fight against publishing deals to keep their ips.

Charting his studio’s six year history in producing games Morris debated whether or not publishers were really necessary for developers.

Introversion’s games such as Uplink, Defcon and Darwinia have all be so far made by its small team and everything from the distribution to the sales have been handled by the same people.

“Do we really need publishers to help with development?” he asked of publisher interference in projects, adding: “With all the creative ideas in our heads, I think not.”

He did say however that publishers are good to provide development funding for big titles. Adding “That’s no small thing”.

Morris’s big statement of the event was when he told attendees; “You don’t need to sell your IP – try saying no to a publisher and see what happens.”

“They need content,” he reasoned, adding that publishers will eventually change their view on wanting to own a project they publish – but someone needs to challenge them first. The rising opportunities for self-publishing via digital distribution is making publishers aware that they may have to be more flexible over contracts, he added.

“Publishers have a lot of interest in our titles but when you’ve got XBLA and PSN you can be a lot tougher in dealing with them.”

Before the McAttack and the EarPain. I had done something I never thought I would do for awhile. I went to the movies.

What did I see you say? Why Mr. Bean’s Holiday.

While this movie has been out for sometime now. The price was right, so I got a almost empty cininma to enjoy the movie.

Well it was fine when I was the only one in there, then these fucking teanage girls came and sat behind me and friggen giggled and laughed and talked through the whole fucking movie.

Then the family which was in their…baby making noices all the time…GAH!!!!

As for the movie, it was average. A bit nay-hay as I say. Needed the teddy in it, and no corny ending. Also make it much more like the original 80’s movies of Mr.Bean…those where the days…
